The STFC Hartree Centre is committed to offering an event environment and experience that is professional, comfortable, safe and accessible for all participants.
By signing up to attend one of our events, you agree to abide by the following principles and standards of behaviour.
If an event participant is found to have violated the Hartree Centre Events Code of Conduct, we reserve the right to ask them to leave our event or venue. Any such participant may also be screened from attending future events hosted by the Hartree Centre (at any venue), or externally hosted events that are taking place at Hartree Centre managed venues.
All UKRI personnel attending our events are also, through their employment, required to abide by the UKRI Code of Conduct.
Harassment and discrimination
All event attendees have the right to be treated with fairness and equity and experience an event free from discrimination, harassment or bullying, regardless of their gender, age, sexual orientation, physical appearance, ethnicity, religion, or any other personal characteristic. We expect all event participants, including STFC staff, to be treated fairly and with respect.
Example behaviours:
Do: Treat everyone you come into contact with at the event with respect, such as using their preferred pronouns when stated, and give everyone equal opportunities to participate in event activities and contribute to discussions.
Don’t: Make assumptions based on personal characteristics, intimidate or harass other attendees, for example through unwanted physical contact or by commenting on their appearance.
Use of facilities and equipment
STFC Hartree Centre resources, such as event spaces, furniture and equipment, should be used solely in respect of its business and not for any other purposes while attending an event. Every reasonable attempt should be made to abide by relevant signage within the venue, follow instructions from your host and refrain from damaging equipment you come into contact with during the event.
Example behaviours:
Do: Abide by the relevant signage in areas where food and drink may be prohibited, make use of the available facilities to enhance your event access and comfort.
Don’t: Attempt to access high security areas that are not part of the event, deliberately cause damage to technical equipment or use it to access inappropriate material.
Don’t: Tailgate staff members through the doors into the Hartree Centre.
Professionalism and appropriate behaviour
We expect all event participants to behave in a professional manner that is appropriate for the business context of the event and to follow relevant instructions from the host regarding any event activities.
Example behaviours:
Do: Silence your phone during presentations, network and make new professional connections with like-minded attendees
Don’t: Deliberately disrupt event proceedings with inappropriate behaviour such as talking loudly during presentations, heckling speakers or using forceful selling techniques on other attendees during breaks.
